McDonald's Canada to Renovate Locations
McDonald’s Corp. will pump $1 billion
into renovating its Canadian restaurants, hoping it can
reinvigorate itself in Canada as it has in the United
States.
McDonald's marketing team has tried to repaint its
restaurants as a hip, healthy places to eat and to
recast more of its locations as 24-hour operations. The
announcement by McDonalds Canada attempts to build off
that success by investing heavily in its properties. The
changes will not only affect the front counter but will
also change the experience behind the counter to build
infrastructure that facilitates menu evolution and
enhance customer experience.
The locations will benefit from new interior and
exterior designs, including prominent fireplaces,
flat-screen televisions, stone and tile accents, as well
as wood tones and colorful wall graphics. However, a
company spokesperson says that splashes of the chain’s
traditional colors will remain. Its dining rooms will be
divided into separate eating areas for larger groups,
on-the-go customers, families, or for individuals who
want to relax and enjoy amenities such as free and
unlimited Wi-Fi. There will also be the addition of
double-lane drive-thrus in many locations.
Here are some more of the key changes in store:
- The conventional mansard roof of
the restaurant in shades of red will be substituted
with a modern flatter roof.
- The Golden Arches will be
retained with a few changes in design as the logo
will be put on a red blade outside the facility.
- Kitchens will be redesigned and
fitted with new appliances.
- The design of all buildings will
be compatible with the local communities and
demographics.
More than half of the company’s
restaurants will have been renovated by the end of 2011,
with plans to have the majority of its remaining
restaurants transformed by the end of 2012.
McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada
Limited and its Canadian franchisees own and operate
more than 1,400 restaurants and employ more than 80,000
people.
